Your Driving Instructor Career Journey
Your journey to becoming a qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) follows a clear step-by-step process.
Step 1 – Apply to Become a Driving Instructor
Apply to the DVSA and make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
Step 2 – Pass the Part 1 Theory Test
Prepare for and pass the ADI Part 1 theory and hazard perception test.
Step 3 – Pass the Part 2 Driving Test
Develop your driving skills to the high standard required by the DVSA.
Step 4 – Apply for a PDI Licence
Begin gaining valuable teaching experience while continuing your training.
Step 5 – Pass the Part 3 Instructional Ability Test
Learn how to coach learner drivers safely and professionally.
Step 6 – Qualify as an ADI
