1. Legal Alcohol Limits

>Blood: 80 mg per 100 ml


>Breath: 35 micrograms per 100 ml


>Urine: 107 mg per 100 ml


Roughly equals 1 strong pint of beer or 1 large glass of wine, but it varies by weight, gender, food, and time.

No “safe” number of drinks – the only safe option is don’t drink if you plan to drive.

2. Drug-Driving

> It’s illegal to drive with any controlled drug above the set limit — even if prescribed.

>> Includes: cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine, morphine, benzodiazepines, etc.

>>> Police can test saliva or blood; failing or refusing to give a sample is an offence. Always check prescription medication labels before driving.

3. Police Powers

~Police can stop and test you if:
> They suspect drink or drug use,

>> You’ve committed a traffic offence, or

>>> You’re involved in a collision.


~Refusing a test = automatic criminal offence.

Courts may offer a Drink-Drive Rehabilitation Course (DDRS). Completing it can reduce a driving ban by up to 25%.
