Remember that if you're self-employed, lesson income is turnover rather than take-home pay. You'll need to account for expenses such as your vehicle, fuel or charging, insurance, maintenance, franchise or marketing costs where applicable, and tax.
The advantage is that you have much greater control over your workload. Some instructors choose part-time hours for flexibility, while others build a full-time diary and operate their driving instruction as a business.
